C64 Music
This is a collection of the old C64 tracks I have created around 1990-1994. You can select the tracks in the player, and download the SID files at the end of this page.
All the tracks in the player below are just previews of the songs. Because it is usual that music on the C64 is looping endless, I just rendered the first four minutes of each track. I also used a filter, compressor and reverb to ease the hard electronic sounds and created a small stereo effect for todays audience.
The list contains many good but also very bad tracks. Most of them were used in demos and games. But there are tracks which are used to test the player and really experimetal ones too.
Composing on C64
The soundchip in the C64 is called SID. This chip has only three audio oscillators. Each oscillator can play four different waveforms (sawtooth, triangle, pulse and noise). Each voice has a separate ADSR curve. And there is one filter you can use. You find all details in the Wikipedia article liked above.
To implement own effects I had in mind, I create my own music composer. This was not a special thing, many composers created their own composer software.
